Chicago Jewelers: Guide To Engagement Ring Insurance

Chicago Jewelers: Engagement Ring Insurance

Chicago Jewelers
You met the girl. You bought the ring.  Austin Jewelers You even nailed the perfect proposal. Time to live happily ever after, right? Well, almost.
Nothing spoils that blissful feeling like a lost or stolen ring. Not to worry though—we’ve got an easy way to ensure peace of mind.
Engagement ring insurance.
Yup. Much like your iPhone insurance protects against a future with a cracked screen, engagement ring insurance is about protecting your investment—only this time the investment is much more valuable than your phone.
Basically, Chicago Jewelers.  engagement ring insurance protects the emotional value of her ring—and it protects you from having to spend that money all over again.

Chicago Jewelers: Do I Really Need This?

If you have expensive jewelry or are proposing with a piece that has sentimental value, Las vegas jewelers. you need engagement ring insurance.
Whether your engagement ring is $500 or $50,000, an insurance policy is a way of honoring not only its financial value but the feeling behind it. Her ring is precious. She’s going to wear it all the time. If you’d like to secure it from damage or loss, you’ll want insurance.
Here’s everything you need to know about insuring her ring.

Chicago Jewelers: What Is It Exactly?

Engagement ring insurance is a lot like auto or home insurance. You pay a certain amount of money annually to protect your ring against everything from theft or damage to loss—depending on the plan you select.

Chicago Jewelers: What Are My Options?

There are several ways to ensure an engagement ring. New York Jewelers You can purchase an extension (aka rider) on your renter’s or homeowner’s policy.
Expensive or sentimental items (like your engagement ring) are guaranteed through an insurance policy extension called scheduled personal property coverage. Just be sure to read the fine print before buying the ring rider.  A good policy will cover every potential ring-threatening situation, from theft and damage to accidentally dropping it down the bathtub drain.
Selecting a company that specializes in jewelry insurance is another way to go. This option might offer more coverage than a standard homeowners policy. For example, a dedicated jewelry insurance policy might fully replace a lost or stolen ring—whereas other types of policies pay a set amount of cash that only partially covers the ring.

Chicago Jewelers: How To Ensure Your Jewelry

Once you’ve decided that you want engagement ring insurance, here’s what you do.
  • Get an appraisal from a certified gemologist.
You’ll need proof of the value and attributes of her ring. phoenix Jewelers, It’s important to know how much the ring is worth if you want a cash reimbursement or a ring of equal value. Depending on your ring, the hourly rate of an appraisal can be anywhere from $50 to $150 which covers market research, lab work and a written copy of the appraisal. Because appraisals are tailored to each situation, costs can vary based on the complexity or simplicity of the item being appraised. It’s also worth noting that the ring’s assessed value may be higher or lower than what you paid depending on where you purchased it, whether it was on sale, and whether it incorporates custom or heirloom elements.
  • Have your receipts ready.
The insurer will require proof of purchase as well as the appraised value of the ring.
  • Make sure your rider follows you.
If you move after the wedding, make sure your ring rider is transferable to your new home’s insurance coverage. san Antonio jewelers
  •  If you had the ring insured with your fiancee’s house before the wedding, for example, you’ll need to add it to your new home’s policy once you move in together.

  • No renter’s or homeowner’s policy? No problem.
There’s another way to ensure your ring. Some insurance companies work with jewelers to offer policies on individual pieces. San Francisco jewelers
  •  Just ask your jeweler. Be sure to get specific answers about the level of coverage you’ll be getting—these types of companies can vary quite a bit.

Chicago Jewelers: Get The Answers You Need

Before purchasing a policy, ask these questions:
  • Is the ring covered if you lose it accidentally—or only if it’s stolen?
  • How will the company replace the ring? With a check?
  • Will the company require you to purchase a replacement through a specified jeweler
  • What happens if it’s a vintage ring or other unique piece?
  • How will the quality and size of your diamond be documented? And, if a replacement is needed, how will the quality and size be measured and documented?
  • Is the ring insured to full cost or a fraction of it?
  • If you do make a claim, what are the requirements for proving that the ring vanished?
  • Are there any circumstances of loss or damage that aren’t covered? (Say you’re skydiving in Australia, and it falls off her finger, for example?)
  • What is the average cost of a ring rider policy? How does the price of the jeweler’s insurance plan compare?
Pro Tip: The yearly cost to insure your ring is $1 to $2 for every $100 that it would cost to replace. This means that if your ring costs $9,000 to replace, you might expect to pay between $90 and $180 per year to insure it—or slightly more in cities where the risk of theft is higher.

One More Thing

In addition to buying insurance, you might consider getting a vault or safe to protect her ring when she’s not wearing it.  Keeping paperwork like appraisals and policy riders in the safe is a good idea too—that way you’ll always know where it is if you need it.
So, you got the girl. You scored the right ring. Your proposal went perfectly. And now you know your options for protecting her ring.

Chicago Jewelers:What is Palladium

Chicago Jewelers:: Palladium? FAQ

Chicago Jewelers

1. Chicago Jewelers:: What is palladium?

Palladium is a silvery-white precious metal that looks similar to white gold and platinum. Jewelry Store in Austin Part of the platinum group metals (PGMs), it is rare, durable, lightweight and hypoallergenic. Named after an asteroid called Pallas (and rooted in Greek mythology), this metal can be a great option for engagement rings and wedding bands.

2. Chicago Jewelers::  How rare is palladium?

According to Investopedia, it’s one of the rarest metals on earth. In fact, they say it’s about 15 times rarer than platinum and 30 times more rare than gold. Jewelry Store in Las Vegas Most of the palladium in the world comes from two countries: Russia and South Africa, where approximately 80% of it is mined and refined.

3.Chicago Jewelers::  Is palladium a good choice for engagement rings or wedding bands?

Though it has similar chemical properties to platinum, palladium has a much lower melting point and is also not as dense. This gives it a lighter feel, which can be great for those who are not used to wearing jewelry.
Since an engagement ring or wedding band is typically worn every day, consider how comfortable that might be for you. While some prefer a ring with a little weight to you it, you may find that a palladium ring can be so light that you don’t even notice it on your finger.
Like platinum, it is also tarnish-resistant, appealing to those shopping for a low-maintenance option. Over time, small scratches produce a beautiful brushed patina on palladium without reducing any of its lustrous silver colors. Jewelry Store in New York  This is one way it differs from white gold rings, which require Rhodium replating every year or two to maintain their luster. Palladium’s durability makes it a solid choice for jewelry that will last a lifetime.

4. Chicago Jewelers:: How durable is palladium?

Palladium is one of the hardest metals used for jewelry. jewelry Store in Phoneix Only rhodium, titanium, tungsten, and tungsten carbide are harder. Here’s where those precious metals fall on the Mohs hardness scale:
Metal Hardness Comparison
MetalMohs Hardness Rating
Tungsten7.5
Rhodium6.0
Titanium6.0
Palladium4.8
Steel4.0 – 4.5
Nickel4.0
Iron4.0
Platinum3.5
Copper3.0
Gold2.5
Silver2.5
While palladium is slightly harder than platinum, Jewelry Store in San Diego the lightness of the metal makes it less workable than platinum, which is more easily crafted, refurbished, and repolished.

5. Chicago Jewelers:: Is palladium worth more than gold or platinum?

As with all precious metals, prices fluctuate based on numerous factors. One year ago, palladium was less expensive than gold and platinum, but with the fall of platinum prices, it is now significantly more than platinum and only marginally less expensive than gold.

Aug 23, 20171291.0017.11979.75937.95
A note about price: the price per ounce doesn’t mean that a ring made out of palladium will be more expensive than the same one made from platinum. As we mentioned earlier, palladium is much lighter (less dense) than platinum. Jewelry Store in san Antonio This means it takes fewer grams of palladium to form the same size ring as a platinum one. However, platinum is largely considered a better quality precious metal and a better long term choice for jewelry.

6.Chicago Jewelers:: What’s the best alternative to a palladium ring?

The best alternative to this metal is its better-known cousin, platinum. Jewelry Store In Chicago They share so many positive aspects — color, durability, and sensitive-skin compatibility — one of the only reasons people chose palladium over platinum was the price. So it’s actually a great time to purchase a platinum wedding ring, which promises to withstand years and years of use.

7. Chicago Jewelers:: Is palladium bad for you?

Palladium is an excellent, safe choice for jewelry since it’s hypoallergenic. However, like most metals, it definitely shouldn’t be ingested!

8.Chicago Jewelers:: So what’s better: platinum or palladium?

As we mentioned, palladium and platinum are very similar metals. Jewelry Store in San FranciscoThey’re both beautiful, very durable, and hypoallergenic. In terms of form and function, it just comes down to your personal preference, and how each option feels on your finger. In terms of price, it all depends on the current market value of each metal type.

Chicago Jewelers: – Courtney and Jose

Chicago Jewelers: Proposal Story

Chicago Jewelers
Fate brought this couple together at Temple. Love (and Tinder) sealed the deal.
Courtney knew right away she had a crush on Jose when she saw him for the first time. It was a hot June evening at a church softball game when she first caught a glimpse of his jet black hair and the blue Dodger “Kershaw” jersey that he still wears at any given opportunity.
Jose noticed Courtney too, but he was shy and didn’t show a hint of interest. Courtney even asked his name only to be ignored, although Jose swears he didn’t hear her. Jewelry Store in Austin For weeks, they both played it cool during the rest of the summer softball games, stealing glances while the other was turned but never daring to speak a word.
Chicago Jewelers
Finally, Fate stepped in, via Tinder.
After they both swiped right, communication suddenly opened up for them and Courtney and Jose were texting away. Courtney was sure they had finally broken the ice. Until the next softball game, where Jose completely ignored her again. Courtney couldn’t believe it and remembers thinking,
“Don’t you believe in love at first sight? Or should I walk by, again?!”
Not to be put off, Courtney decided to just be bold. On Sunday, she noticed him in the chapel and made her way to sit directly behind him. Jewelry Store in Las vegas She was going to speak to him in person whatever it took. When the church was over, he gave her an odd ‘friend-zone’ handshake and left. Having taken extra time to get ready that day, hoping to have a formal introduction with him, Courtney was beginning to lose patience.
But somehow her blunt forwardness must have made an impact on shy Jose. Soon after, he found the courage to speak to her and the couple began texting frequently. They would talk about church activities and softball.

Chicago Jewelers: The First Date

On August 7, 2015, the couple went on their first date to a Salt Lake Bee’s baseball game and afterward to a friend’s birthday party. When they arrived at the party, all attention was immediately on Jose and his dance moves. As they moved on from the dance floor, they joined a group playing Truth or Dare. One dare was for the girl sitting next to Jose to kiss him.
Despite having Courtney sitting on the other side of him, Jose leaned over and kissed the other woman with no hesitation! Courtney tried to reconcile the image of this guy who was too shy to talk to her for weeks, but was totally fine kissing a stranger on a dare!
“It was the most memorable, awkward, last first date ever,” Courtney recalls.

 Chicago Jewelers: Things Get Serious

After their date, aside from Jose’s kissing spree, the couple was inseparable. Time had a way of disappearing as they found themselves lost in conversation. Jewelry Store in New York They often went to movies, church activities, looking up and stargazing on their walks. They even joked around, imagining what their kids would look like.
One night at the temple, they had a heart-to-heart talk about the future. As they listened to one another it struck Courtney how much the two had in common, and how in sync they were. She had a feeling that night that this was the start to something real, and something lasting.
“My mother always told me, ‘Courtney, when you meet the right person you will know!’”
She knew.

Chicago Jewelers: The Proposal

Courtney recalls, “I don’t know when it first came up, but Jose and I got very serious and often talked about getting married.”
In March, Jose joined Courtney on a trip to Mississippi to spend a weekend at home with family. Courtney suspected Jose was going to propose, so she primped and prepared, getting her nails done and becoming more and more excited as the weekend progressed. jewelry Store in Phoneix Jose picked up on Courtney’s suspicions but had her convinced that he was simply asking for her father’s blessing and had not even shopped for a ring yet.
She completely fell for it.
With the whole family together, dressed for a friend’s shower, Courtney’s mother wanted to take some family photos and suggested that they all take a walk to the lake in their backyard.
It was a beautiful day and as they walked down the path, Jose told Courtney how much he loved her. With her arm wrapped around Jose, Courtney felt something in his pocket, but Jose quickly moved and shifted her arm.  Jewelry Store In Chicago Jose told Courtney again how much he loved her. Still not sure what was happening, Courtney laughed nervously and asked why he was telling her all these things.
Chicago Jewelers
As Jose turned toward Courtney, he got down on one knee. And then Courtney saw the ring. It was a stunning cushion-shaped diamond halo with the brilliant sparkle of four, large, prong-set diamonds cascading from either side of the center diamond. Jewelry Store in san Antonio Nothing could have prepared Courtney for how incredible it was, taking this moment in, and sharing it with her family. She was moved to tears as she accepted Jose’s proposal.
Chicago Jewelrs
The bride and groom exchanged vows in the Los Angeles Latter-Day Saint Temple on Wednesday, September 14th. Whenever Courtney looks down at the lovely ring she wears, it reminds her of all that is special and unique about her bond with Jose, and it makes her happy to know that she finally found love that was one of a kind.

Chicago Jewelers: How To Measure Ring Size

Chicago Jewelers:

Chicago Jewelers
The method you use to measure a ring size depends on a few tactics, including who you are buying for, and how much information you already know about your desired ring. Jewelry Store In Chicago If seeking your own ring size, choose from the following three methods:
Ring Size Chart
Use our free ring sizing chart.
Use a Jeweler’s Ring Sizing Tool
Free ring sizer sent to your home.
Go In-Store for Professional Measurement
Find a Ritani jeweler near you.

Chicago Jewelers: Finding Her Engagement Ring Size

The surprise proposal Chicago Jewelers
Time to pop the question? Make it perfect.
If you want to keep your proposal a surprise until the last minute, figuring out what size of engagement ring to buy can be a challenge. We’re not talking about the size of the diamond, but about the size of the engagement ring band. Jewelry Store in Austin Thankfully, there are a few ways you can find your wife-to-be’s ring size without giving her any hint you’re about to propose.
Use one of her existing rings
Download a ring size chart here (it’s free). Print it out, making sure it is zoomed to 100% to ensure the scale is correct. Now, get a hold of one of her rings. Jewelry Store in Las vegas She probably keeps her jewelry in a box or drawer — locate it, and select a ring that you have seen her wearing in the past.
Set the ring down on top of the ring size chart, and find the circle that best matches the inner diameter of her ring. If her ring does not exactly match any of the circles, choose the circle that is slightly larger than her ring. Write down the number within the circle that is the closest match — it’s easy to forget if you don’t make a note! Now, take this ring size number to a jeweler or online ring marketplace when you’re ready to purchase her engagement ring.
Call in the cavalry
If you’re unable to use one of her existing rings, you may need to enlist the help of one of her close friends, sisters or mom. Here are a few ideas. Just make sure you choose someone to help who you’re sure won’t accidentally spill the beans.
  • Simply ask one of her close female friends or family members if they know her ring size — they may know exactly, or they may know her hand size well enough to make an educated guess.
  • Ask them to take her shopping and try on some jewelry together, including some rings. They can attempt to get a hold of one ring that fits her and find out its size, whether from the price tag or from a sales associate. A great premise your wing-woman can use for this shopping trip is that she wants to pick out a fashion ring for herself, and needs company.
  • If your wife-to-be has a favorite local jeweler who she often shops with, it is possible they have sold her a fashion ring and have her ring size on file. Simply call and ask them.
Of course, you can always take your best guess and resize afterward using Ritani’s free resizing service. If you do take a guess, err on the larger side, as it’s easier for jewelers to make a band smaller than larger.
Most importantly, take a deep breath. You’re about to propose! She will be thrilled by the ring and the fact that you want to spend the rest of your life with her — and that is the most exciting part of this moment.

Chicago jewelers: Choosing an engagement ring together

Chicago Jewelers If you’ve decided as a couple that it’s time to tie the knot, and you don’t require the element of a surprise proposal, phoenix Jewelers.  finding your wife-to-be’s ring size can be an enjoyable and memorable moment. One great way to ensure that her ring is the perfect fit is to go to your local jeweler for a professional measurement. You can turn this into a relaxing outing, and take her to a romantic dinner or stroll in the park afterward.
If you prefer to discover her ring size in the comfort of your home, we recommend that you order Ritani’s free ring sizing tool, which we’ll deliver to the location of your choice. Second, to get a professional sizing, the ring size tool is the most accurate way to find the perfect fit. This method has the added bonus of convenience — you can take the measurement whenever the two of you are ready, and if you need to measure more than once, you can. It is, in fact, wise to measure at least twice, because her ring size may change slightly depending on the time of day and temperature — in the morning when her body temperature is likely lower, her fingers will be slightly smaller. In the afternoon and evening as body temperature increases, her fingers will be slightly larger. (And the same is true for you when you’re ready to find your wedding ring size.)

Chicago Jewelers: Finding His Wedding Band Size

Newly engaged? Don’t forget his wedding band  Chicago Jewelers
If your guy just popped the question, you’re probably already starting on your wedding planning. One of the most important considerations is making sure that his wedding band fits perfectly, both in terms of style and size.  San Diego jewelers Here are several accurate ways to find his wedding ring size.
Professional measurement
A great way to ensure that his ring will fit comfortably is to take him in for a professional ring size measurement at your local jeweler. This will not only allow you to find his correct size, but he will be able to try on different metals and styles.
Depending on his lifestyle, the thickness of the band will impact in his everyday comfort. If his career requires minimal hands-on work, you may be able to splurge with a diamond stud or carved detail in the band. san Antonio jewelers If his career or hobbies require a lot of physical labor, a simply styled, ultra-durable metal such as palladium or cobalt is the better choice. If you go in for sizing, do not feel pressured to purchase a ring that day — the jeweler will understand that you need to take your time to decide. After all, your man will wear his wedding ring every day, and it should fit him as perfectly as your engagement ring fits you.
Measure at home
If he prefers to skip the jewelry store, you can order Ritani’s ring sizing tool and measure his ring finger yourself. This affords you both more convenience. Note that his fingers will likely be a bit smaller in the mornings when his body temperature is lower; they will be a bit larger in the afternoon as his body temperature rises. Chicago Jewelers With a ring sizing tool, you can measure several times throughout a day to make sure you get an accurate size.
Keeping it on the down-low?
If you want to surprise him with a wedding ring, and therefore can’t take him to a jeweler or use a sizing tool, there are two options we recommend.
Existing ring and a size chart
If he already has one or two rings that he wears occasionally, you can use these to get a close estimate of his ring finger size. You’ll need to download a ring size chart and get a hold of one of his rings.
You can get a free ring sizing chart. Print it out, making sure it is zoomed to 100% to ensure the scale is correct. Now locate one of his rings.  San Diego jewelers Place the size chart on a flat surface and compare the ring against the various circles. Find the circle that most closely matches the inside diameter of his ring. Record the number of the closest matching circle — and you’ve got his ring size.
Ask his dad, his brother, or his best man
There are a handful of men in your future husband’s life who can help you find his ring size. His dad and his brothers grew up with him — their hand sizes are likely very close to his; and even if they have very different hand sizes, they know him well enough to give you an educated estimate of his size. Alternately, ask the guy who will be the best man at your wedding to find it out on the sly.
Any of these tactics will prepare you to start shopping for his wedding ring, with the peace of mind that the ring you choose will fit him perfectly for years to come.

Chicago Jewelers Proposal Story: Catherine and George

Chicago Jewelers: Catherine and George

Austin Jewelers
Catherine and George’s love story began in 2015 when Cat was hanging out with her friends on a warm day in July. “I remember it as out of a movie – we bumped into each other, he smiled and said hello, and I fell in love,” Cat said. Within the first hour of knowing each other, George suggested they take a photo together and send it to Cat’s mom. “He was wholehearted and totally got me. I knew then [that he was the one] and I went over to my friends saying ‘I just met my husband!’” Cat said.

Austin Jewelers:  The First Date

Cat and George had their first date in Manhattan. “I drove down and remember her colorful kimono waving through the air as I picked her up on the corner of Madison Square Garden. Her smile was stunning,” George recalls, “I wanted to hold her hand SO badly, but didn’t want to rush things.” They drove to Central Park where they walked around and enjoyed the summer breeze. “We eventually held hands – it was great,” George said. Jewelry Store in Austin The two sat together on a bench by the pond, talking about what they do, their families, and their goals. The window-shopped, talked for hours and ended up at Ayza Wine and Chocolate Bar for dinner and drinks.
George walked Cat-back to Penn Station, but she had just missed the most recent train and would have to wait another 45 minutes. George drove her home instead and they planned their next date and kissed goodnight.
September rolled around and George decided it was time to make their relationship official. George surprised Cat with flowers and they walked down to the Hudson River near his apartment. Baltimore jewelers He told her that the flowers were for a reason, and that reason was him asking her to be his girlfriend. She jumped into his arms and said yes.
That night, they had dinner at an Italian restaurant near the Hudson River. An elderly couple having dinner next to them stopped to tell them what a lovely couple they were. “And they were right! I had a special feeling from the day I met her, but getting this first important yes made it real!” George said.

 Chicago jewelers: The Ring

George quickly realized Cat was the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. He decided it was time to start looking for an engagement ring. Columbus Jewelers George had some base knowledge of diamonds and engagement rings by doing some research and talking to friends about the process, but he learned a lot more on Ritani’s website.
Cat had no idea what type of engagement ring she would want someday. “I love sparkly things, truly obsessed. But I never knew what type of diamond or ring I wanted. I just know I wanted SPARKLY. George has amazing taste and eventually knew that he would design the most amazing piece on his own. He did that and so much more beyond. I could not have done any better,” Cat said.
Using the bits and pieces of info he had gathered from Cat, he created a custom ring on his own that he knew she would love. Las vegas jewelers George selected a French-Set Halo Diamond ‘V’ Band engagement ring with a radiant diamond center stone.

 Austin jewelers: The Proposal

“BABE, I WON A TRIP THROUGH WORK!” This was the text Cat received from George last September. He explained that after a year of being at his new job, he had won a trip for two to Austria thanks to his hard work putting him at the top of his starting class. New York Jewelers Cat didn’t find this unusual since his boss had been to Hawaii only a few months prior. She had no idea George was planning to propose on this trip.
A few weeks later, they landed in Austria. They were tired but excited to be in a beautiful new country riddled with snow-capped mountains. They checked into their chic hotel, freshened up, and started exploring. They enjoyed the crisp air, local grub, welcoming smiles, and wandering the bicycle-ridden streets.
George had arranged for them to get a private tour of the Swarovski museum where he would get down on one knee. He chose this location because Cat loves all things Swarovski. “If anyone tells you they aren’t nervous for the proposal itself, they are kidding you! You want everything to go right and for it to be such a special moment. My biggest fear was losing the ring before or during the proposal. I must have checked my pocket 1,000 times! A lot of planning went into this one, incredible moment for the two of us. More than anything, I was excited to see her face when she realized what was happening. This is one of those few once-in-a-lifetime types of smiles you can bring out of your significant other and you want to get it right.” George said.
Their tour guide greeted them and took them around the museum, showing them various installations highlighting Swarovski crystals via different artist’s interpretations. The tour guide took them to the top of a set of stairs and said, “This next room, in particular, is quite special. Being in the room and THEN seeing it is totally different than just walking in, so please put on these blindfolds.” George helped Cat put on her blindfold and the two were led into the room.
When Cat opened her eyes, George got down on one knee and asked her to spend the rest of her life with him. She said yes!
